Trust me, once the semester gets into swing, you'll feel more comfortable and more willing to try socializing more. I met a lot of people, there, including Mr. Bishop himself. ;) Go to Fundraisers. Get out of the dorms, once in a while. Oh, and get a Mentoring JOb, if you can.
