I am a law abiding (for the most part) citizen of this great country. Unfortunately, I am really confused as to what our supreme court is doing. I never quite understood how the "opinions" of this small group can out-weigh anything else, but it does. I am quite happy to know that if I decide to go out and gun down someone in cold blood that I can be put to death. That's the way it should be - a heinous crime deserves that punishment. I have no problem with watching someone fry that took someone's life. (I'd actually rather watch them fry instead of given a yummy drug cocktail that lets them pass on so peacefully - fuck that - make them feel pain). Now, it has been decided by our "supreme" court that if someone decides to rape a child under 12 (which is a particularly heinous act) that they cannot be sentenced to death - no way, no how. They get to live. They get to go to a facility where our tax dollars can support them for god only knows how many years. We'll take care of their clothing, their food, their housing, their medical needs...anything they want, pretty much. Granted, I understand that even the most violent of offenders have a true disdain for child molesters; the fact is that almost all prisons in the country have special units, or cell blocks, for the pedophiles and other "namby pamby" assholes. A special yard for them to play in and specific things to keep them away from the general population. Why? Because some big ass son of a bitch is gonna slice their neck and let them die in pain in the middle of the prison yard. What a fucking shame! Oh, boo hoo hoo...the disgusting little prick that rapes an 8 year old girl needs to be protected. Fuck that - kill 'em! Basically, the supreme court's recent ruling (which cannot be appealed) means this: Being a resident of the great state of Florida, the death penalty can be used as punishment for capital crimes. If a man decides to go buy a gun, plan a little trip to some drug infested neighborhood, proceed to ambush a scum bag dealer and kill them; he can then be executed. He will be killed for cleaning up the streets. If, on the other hand, he decides on an alternate plan, goes down to the local playground, scopes out some hot little chick (8 or 9 years old), abducts her, rapes her and causes her massive physical, mental and emotional injuries; he'll get life in prison and is not eligible to be put to death. That is, plain and simple, BULLSHIT! Wait...wait...Say he does the second one there...he'll probably get paroled for good behavior - I mean, you know he will find jesus as soon as he gets in prison (don't they all). He'll get out, register as a sexual predator and find him a nice trailer park that will accept him (Tampa area folks know what I'm talking about), where he'll relax the rest of his days. OK..so the father of the girl that was victimized learns that the predator is out and where he lives. He goes out, buys a gun, plans and outing and locates the trailer. He lies in wait for the predator bastard to come home where he promptly puts a bullet in his head (maybe in the little prick's crotch first just to see him writhe on the ground crying like a little bitch). The poor bastard will get arrested and charged with a capital offense, and be eligible for the death penalty!! Tell me - how is that fair? Who deserves to die - the disgusting, perverted pedophile - or the emotionally upset father? The supreme court says the father... Now, I realize that my last scenario is a stretch. More than likely, the father would be given a life sentence, based on circumstance. So he'll get to spend the rest of his days in a prison somewhere - but in the general population as he is only a murderer and not a pedophile that needs to be protected. That phrase just turns my stomach, "pedophile that needs to be protected". That is exactly what this country has come to. Someone can commit an act so heinous and so disgusting, leaving victims in their wake - and then be "protected". Reminds me of the scene from "Dirty Harry" (those who saw that film already know what I'm talking about); Harry shoots some fruitcake murderer/kidnapper and as he is stepping on the bullet wound asking where the missing girl is located, the guy screams at Harry that he wants his lawyer, that he has rights. We need more "Dirty Harry" type people in control. We need to make these bastards pay; and pay dearly. Our criminal justice system is supposed to deter crime as well as punish. It seems a little difficult to deter anyone when the highest court in the land let's you know you will only have to face the ultimate punishment for one specific crime. The poor bastard that ran a convenience store, gets shot in the head and miraculously survives, but as a vegetable. The culprit - he gets to sit and be fed, housed clothed and taken care of - why? Because he is not guilty of murder. The victim and the victim's family - they are all but dead. I know all the arguments these pussy groups that are against capital punishment spew out of their self-righteous mouths. It is all crap. For most, they will stop trying to get rid of the death penalty only to go and support an abortion clinic. WTF? I guess they decide which "killing" they want to do away with and which can stay. And, by the way, I am 100% pro-choice and I am 100% pro death penalty (no duh, huh) - unlike those religious zealots that seem to ride both sides of the fence. If some woman wants to abort her fetus, it is her choice and she can go ahead and "kill" it (if you believe it is a life); and, more importantly, if she has that baby and it gets abducted and savagely raped as a young child, the little puke pedophile deserves to DIE!

Well said. But keep in mind, the mexicans, blacks, and the aryan brotherhood in prison HATE child abusers. Most paedophiles in prison get brutally beat up. So it's all good.

The father turned vigilante, and he will be punished accordingly. Justice is for the courts to decide, not Joe Everyman.

I don't know why you set yourself as anonymous; that was well-written, and I totally agree. There are tons of flaws in the justice system. Where I live, in New York, if you booby-trap your home to protect your family from uninvited guests and some such uninvited guest (a burglar/murderer/madman) tries to break in and gets hurt in one of your traps, he can sue you and win!

I'm very happy to know people like you aren't a member of the supreme court. Rape is a terrible crime, but going out with a gun to kill your daughter's rapist is a worse crime. You have a right to defend yourself, but not to go lookiong for revenge. An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. I'm not a supporter of capital punishment. I'm a supporter of rehabilitation. Helping people who made a few wrong choices find the truth and path of a good law abiding life. But hey, that's just me. But at least I have the balls to voice my opinions without the mask of anonymous.

An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind? But what's better, a world in which the good are blind and the bad can see, or a world in which no one can see? I say the latter.

Your hypothesis fails.
