---- Should I run defrag? (http://www.golivewire.com/forums/peer-yaiaayi-support-a.html)

I've not done so for ages and my computer keeps blue screening me (around once a week now).

Do you think it would help? Because I would be uber bored whilst waiting for it to finish so I really would rather not.

Yeah you need to run it.

Have you analyzed it?

I usually go by whether the analysing tells me if I should or not.

If it says yes, then I would.

Did I mention how bored I'd be waiting for it to be done?

Before you go to bed, you can start the defrag, and just let it run overnight (or however long it needs to run). Then, by the time you wake up the next morning, it should already be done.

It says I should. But maybe I should wait till it crashes twice a day rather than once a week...
Or until I have money for a monitor for my other computer so I have something to do whilst its running...
...or ...till I have a life...

lol. not good ideas

maybe find something else to do?

You can still use the computer, just reallllllly slowly.

Or run it when you plan to eat dinner or something.

my laptop has a tendency to switch itself off when I leave it alone, I have told it not to but sometimes it does anyway, I think because it decides it wants to update things and then restart itself... I don't know if it would do so whilst running defrag but I guess its worth a try...

You could check your laptop's power management settings, and Windows/Automatic Update settings? For the Automatic Updates, I have my laptop set to only notify--I control if/when downloads/updates occur. And as for power management, I adjust it accordingly, but I usually have it set to standby after about two hours of idle time. I also have it set to standby when I close my screen.

My feckin brother went and turned off my computer when I went to bed!

If you run it around once a week(which you should) it will only take around ten to twenty minutes.

Sometimes I don't even brush my hair once a week.

-- Posted by Tavis at 4:36 pm on Aug. 28, 2008

For one, that's rather sad that you don't brush your hair that long, and two, you should. But, since you obviously have too much boredom to do it during the day, I would run it right before you go to bed.

I'm assuming you know how to defrag, because you are talking about it like it's no issue to do, just a matter of time.

I personally don't do it every week, I do it more like once a month, because I usually forget, and then someone reminds me about it, and it still has a quick enough run time, something that doesn't take all night or anything.

-- Posted by osmoticdespair at 8:00 am on Aug. 29, 2008

Eh, I never go out or anything so what point brushing my hair?

Anyway I've done it now. All defragmented.

-- Posted by Tavis at 12:44 pm on Aug. 29, 2008

Just so it's not as painful once you do have to, plus, because self-hygene is nice.

And that's good. How long did it take?

-- Posted by osmoticdespair at 12:46 pm on Aug. 29, 2008

Dunno, it ran whilst I slept.

And it doesn't hurt to brush my hair if I have washed it.
