Me and my friends are seniors this year. One of my best friends is only applying to two schools. She doesn't have the best grades in the world, and she only got a 1550 on the SAT (out of the new 2400). She's done lots of sports, but that probably doesn't make up for her grades/test scores. The problem here is, both of the schools are really hard to get into. One of them is known to be extremely hard - people who aren't in the top ten percent of their class normally can't get in (if you are in that percentage you're automatically accepted to a public university), and she isn't. She thinks that she's going to get in because her dad is alumni, but I don't think so. The other school she's applying to is really hard to get into, as well. I asked her about it and she doesn't have any safety schools that she's applying to. Not smart.

Yeah, not smart. She could get into the one where her dad went to but it depends on the school. You should convince her to apply to safeties. Where's the college counselor?!

She might end up at a community college if she has no backups. State school are just as good, too, but you have to apply like the others.
