I can understand wanting to be nicely thin, like this

but i dont understand this

for those of you with an ED, is there a point where you will want to stop, or is it just an ongoing thing, no matter how thin you get?

Dont take my questions the wrong way.  I'm just curious an am no judging or anything like that.

BTW, I know it's psychological
and I also know that is why I'll never fully understand it, but the only way to gain any type of insight is to actually ask these questions.

you know in so many countries they would look at that woman and honestly think she's medically sick in some way.

I think that the girl in the second photo has an amazing body...

-- Posted by jamesish at 2:19 pm on Sep. 6, 2008

Are you kidding, those girls are hawt.  like *****

-- Posted by major at 2:19 pm on Sep. 6, 2008

when i see the first girl, i automatically zone in on the fatty parts
you never see yourself as being a nice shape, you always see the fat. it's a control method, and you're a success when you lose and a failure when you gain regardless of your current weight.

-- Posted by KathyN at 2:20 pm on Sep. 6, 2008

They see themselves differently... it's psychological.

i'd say we start off wanting to be like the first girl and some people just get carried awy and go to far.

Well when you have a ED you don't look at yourself thin even if you are very thin they still think they look fat and disgusting. Thats part of the disease so they when they are that thin they think there beautiful

-- Posted by HOLLOWdepths at 2:21 pm on Sep. 6, 2008

the point of my eating disorder was to physically watch my body wither away. disgusting, but true. it was never about achieving that ideal weight.

it's over now.

Jessica Alba is fat. I would rather be anorexic any day.
At the moment, I'm sadly the opposite. Obese.

They never see themselves as "too thin"... they  think Jessica Alba is skinnier then them, it's a psychological disorder.

Jessica Alba isn't fat.

-- Posted by sunshineshower at 2:47 pm on Sep. 6, 2008

I don't think any of them actually want to be super skinny, its more that they don't want to be fat. And they always see themselves as fat, wether they look like the first or the second pictures.

it means Body Dysmorphic Disorder. Sufferes are excessively concerned about appearance, body shape, body size, weight, perceived lack of muscles, facial blemishes, and/or other perceived body inadequacies and flaws

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_dysmorphic_disorder

that seems to be a separate disorder.  It says that people with BDD can sometimes have anorexia nervosa or bulimia, but they also may not.

edit- that also means that not every one with an eating disorder suffers from bdd
