I'm not the type who would want to see my family every long weekend... distance makes the heart grow fonder, anyways. It's not even that I'm trying to get away... it's just that I feel like being somewhere totally new and separate gives me even more space to define myself. Plus, I would be going to the sunny south, basking in more sunlight than my family up north. My dad was like, "Why would you want to go that far away?" True, we have great schools up here, but there are a few down south that catch my eye. Some of my friends are freshmen at Vandy, Tulane, Emory etc. this year and it made me realize that I could do that too without a problem, and transportation costs are fortunately not an issue for my family. I did a "program" at a college a plane ride away from home this summer and I actually loved the feeling of being in somewhere so incredibly new geographically. It wasn't a negative experience, not that staying close to home would kill me either. Thoughts? Do any of you go to college far away, and if so how do you feel about it? -- Posted by dolce e gabbana at 4:34 pm on Sep. 7, 2008 i use to be like you last year, i thought about going to west coast for school but then i realized it wasn't for me. so instead i stayed closer to home, but got my own apartment with my friend which is just as fun. so now i have the 'independence' and closeness which is a good balance. maybe you should look into something like that. -- Posted by Hi Carie at 4:49 pm on Sep. 7, 2008 I have never been closer than 2 states away to my parents since i went to college at 17. I have never found a problem with it.
