Over 3/4 have tried drugs or are on them. I have never touched anything, and I am never planning to try anything except for maybe limited alcohol.

I think it's because I have had some very bad examples. Both my grandmas smoked like a chimney and dranke like an Irishman. One of them is dying of Emphysema, and I'm sure the other has something. My grandpa died of lung cancer from smoking, and smoked pot. My dad is an ex meth head, ex alcoholic (so he says), and ex smoker. My mom had a drinking problem and is an ex smoker. I know what not to do.

It's just not a good idea. I have worked up out of the gutter my whole life. I see no reason to ruin all that for "A good time" or to look cool. I don't get what those kids think. What are your thoughts?

-- Posted by xJosex at 7:13 pm on Sep. 7, 2008

lol yea today the world is crazy

-- Posted by MystiqueBeauty16 at 7:13 pm on Sep. 7, 2008

Sometimes bad examples aren't even enough.

And you don't think more than 3/4 of our parents generation when they were kids tried some form of illegal drugs?

You do realize a lot of our parents grew up in The Golden Age of Pot, right?

-- Posted by katiecat at 7:13 pm on Sep. 7, 2008

I agree with you 100%. I just don't get the point.

I think that your statistics may be off though.

-- Posted by Riot at 7:13 pm on Sep. 7, 2008

Well...I don't use drugs other than cigarettes and limited wine, most likely never will. I don't have a problem with it, but I don't advocate it. I just can justify spending that much on an addiction.

-- Posted by waynemlb9 at 7:13 pm on Sep. 7, 2008

never done drugs and wont idk why i hang out with every pot head in the school

-- Posted by Aerie at 7:15 pm on Sep. 7, 2008

Never did drugs...don't plan on it.
Although I did get contact high once...It was a cool feeling but I hated not being in control.

-- Posted by Go Steph Go at 7:15 pm on Sep. 7, 2008

I haven't gotten drunk or high and I don't smoke cigarettes. My dad never had either and my mom stopped way before she had me. I had good influences even with my peers doing anything and everything.

-- Posted by BeautifulxLiar at 7:15 pm on Sep. 7, 2008

ah, the world these days....

-- Posted by RIMHfire at 7:16 pm on Sep. 7, 2008

It scares me how early kids are doing drugs and drinking. I started that shit when I was 15. Now 11 year old are doing more hardcore shit than I've ever done.

Whoever answers please don't be an asshole, thankee.

I'd say thats just whats good for you. People all have different interests and needs. For instance, I was initially captivated by psychedelics because I wanted to experience that crazy faux-reality everybody described to me. The first thing I came across was pot, and I was a very impressionable and self-concious kid. I wasn't peer pressure per-say, I wanted to do it. I was peer-pressured in the larger picture though because I felt like I didn't really mesh well with all the people I thought were "cool" in middle-school. For some reason I rationalized maybe smoking pot would reveal to me what it was to be "cool" or whatever. Like how people enjoy drinking because it makes them more social.

After that I just kept enjoying it. It was a way to buy a night of fun in a bag. I sort of didn't know what else there was after a while (which is somewhat depressing). I wasn't a huge pothead by any means at that time, but I didn't know how else to go about enjoying myself. Me and my friends already just hung out, thats what we did. We hung out, talked, played video games, went to the park and generally just took shit as it came. Why not do that while your high as well and make it even more eventful?

Thats how all of my highschool was, and I wasted alot of time doing it to be honest. It makes you so much more open to the idea of spending your time getting awesome at a fighting game rather than studying really hard or doing something productive like a sport or an art.

I still enjoy psychadelics though. I eventually did get to what I was reaching for from the start. Despite all that shit with pot, my interest in drugs was always Acid, shrooms and the like. I used to love writing prose, I wanted to be a writer (till I started thinking it may be a boring profession). I felt like that shit would expand my creative pool, give me a heads-up in originality to others who hadn't had those experiences.

Personally I think my interest in psychadelics was never misguided or wrong as anybody looking to grow and learn should throw themselves into the jaws of experience, but my interest in marijuana definatly was. It's not as harmless as you think, it may not actually directly waste your brain or your body, but it wastes one of your scarcest of resources. Your time. I'm sure I'll smoke in the future from time to time like I'm sure I'll have a beer with my friends every once in a while, but the wide-spread idea among teenagers that smoking pot several times a day is fine isn't.

I'm sure some people can handle that kind of constant leave from sobriety, but most can't.

I'm one of todays "kids" (just started college) and I have neither drank, nor smoked, ever, and I don't intend to. I've seen far too many idiots ruin their lives or relationships because of drugs and alcohol.

I don't understand why kids do these things- it doesn't make you more mature; in fact, it makes you far less mature, if anything. The high is temporary, and drowning your problems in booze does nothing to resolve them.

Sadly, with the way the world is going, I often describe it in the following manner:

"This city is dying of rabies. Is the best I can do to wipe random flecks of foam from its lips?"~ Watchmen

Its truely unfortunate that the majority of these people won't "wake up" and suddenly realized they need a major lifestyle change until far too late- and many more will never have this epiphany at all.

As far as finding other people with this mentality- well, you are truely a rarity, and are wise beyond your years. Be proud of yourself- you have morals and values that are unbreakable. Stick to what you believe and don't let others change you,

Best of luck in all you do,
    - Gutz

My aunt was an alcoholic and died of liver failure. You sure you want to try alcohol?

I meant trying alcohol as in drinking seldomly for special occasions. Not as in getting wasted.

What caused you to ask this question anyways?

Are you genuinely confused by the idea of people looking for intoxication?

Yeah a lot of them are idiots, many fuck up their lives, but not all of them. Drugs make you grow up.

So even if it's not an abuser. Like say it's someone who just wanted to feel and analyze that experience, someone who was interested in the effects like Albert Hoffman, the human test subjects of LSD for possible psychology uses, or the large movement of christians and religious people trying ecstasy at it's birth in Dallas because of the "spiritual" aspect. Is that person really stupid for being curious? Or is it only the abuser you'd say?

EDIT: And I'm not trying to corner you or attack your beliefs, I'm just asking.

Drinking "occasionally" is still worse than smoking pot.

For the record, marijuana in no fucking way caused lung cancer. Now unfortunatly theres a good chance you will become addicted to something, though that would depend on your age alot.

They are not crazy, they are not stupid, they are not idiots.
These days, factual information is more available than it was before. We know the truth about more drugs that we once thought to be deadly and only harmful, because that is what our DARE officer taught us. And we were told to trust them, so we did.
We don't need a DARE officer anymore. We can get the real information on our own. Straight from scientists. Therefore, we find out we don't need to be backed into corners and made to be afraid of everything under the sun that is against the law.

I wouldn't say that at all. I don't drink. Usually, I'll have a glass of wine at Thanksgiving and Christmas, a glass of champagne on New Year's and a bellini on my birthday. 4 drinks a year.

It depends on the level of pot smoking, I guess, but I would say that I'm better off with my 4 drinks than smoking pot.

It's not about being afraid. It's about knowing that something like crystal meth can destroy your life, so don't do it.

There is a difference between somebody who tries it once or twice and an abuser, for sure.

But it's a dumb habit. There are so many more important things in life to focus on, why piss away your time and money on something that could kill you?

How? A glass of wine a day is actually healthy for you.
It is still drinking.

I was speaking of safer drugs.
I have done drugs for a long time. I am not addicted, I have no health problems because of the drugs I do. They do not have any negative effects on my life. My life is just fine.
My mind has improved, in fact, since I started doing drugs.

Had I listened to what I was taught in school about marijuana and various other drugs, I would not be the person I am today, and nobody in my personal life is unhappy with the person I am today.

What are your thoughts?

That not all drugs are the same thing and that this topic is based on a logical fallacy.

I think it is idiotic to even consider it, as it is usually almost garunteed that "curiosity" will turn into abusing.
