And it can be one or more of these combined, or all of them at once. I've experienced all these aspects of it. And yea, I've done it countless times. -- Posted by Ice318 at 9:57 am on Sep. 16, 2008 yeah, myself and two girlfriends hitch-hiked all around New Zealand's north island this past winter. It was amazing, you meet so many cool people (and a couple crazies)... you learn so much more about the area, and we were offered several times by families places to stay, meals, ect. However, you NEED to be careful. I would not do it alone, and we should have even taken more precautions than we did (for example, we should have let someone back home know where we were headed and when we would be there... instead we just went wherever the wind took us that day lol). We had this big Canadian flag that we held up while hitching and people always picked us up really quick : )
