You will find that it's perhaps a bit cliche, but quite a propos. Tell me if I should fix anything. Seven The sun sets over the city The sky glows yellow and red And summer draws to an end The laughing lovers hold each other close Knowing that they soon must part Their separate worlds may never intersect For he has a family A wife and a baby And she lives a thousand miles away He whispers as they dance, "Don't think about tomorrow Right now there's only today." Her flight is booked for the next morning And he'll go back to work In that cold steel high rise Same old same old same old grind Searching for something he'll never find They want the night to last forever If only they could freeze the moment And forever keep it safe In an unbreakable glass case The world would go on spinning Rain might fall But they wouldn't know it at all They'd be dancing in the starlight And everything would be all right He kisses her good-bye In the shadows of the street She tries hard not to cry. "It's not the end. We'll meet again someday" he says "I promise you it's true. I'll keep you here inside my heart No matter what I do. I love you, and only you." Morning dawns bright and new The city wakes under a blanket of blue She rises with the sun And packs her bags Thinking of him. Beyond her hotel window In the street below The metropolis comes alive But she feels dead inside. She's going to be late She runs to catch a taxi Pushing through the crowds of people Faceless masses Meaningless to her Suddenly Someone screams "Look up there!" A million eyes turn to the sky And the buildings shining bright In the morning light She sees it happen Watching in terror Hoping Praying It's some sort of error He goes to work early On Floor Ninety-Three It's his boss's orders To make up for lost days. He files papers left askew Wondering why it has to be this way, Why love cannot be true, Why no one ever sees that he's Longing to be free, wonderfully free. He looks out the window And sees the glint of a metal monster Growing larger and larger Speeding faster and faster He closes his eyes But there's no time to cry When the impact comes And rips apart his dreams Her face is the last thing he sees The smoke chokes the sun And the ashes rain in the street As the towers fall. She runs, clutching her heart While the world is being torn apart Her mind takes her back To the night before Walking with him Through these same streets Now stained with blood and gore. The people hang their heads In bitter defeat Nothing will ever be the same But who's the one to blame? How could anyone have known? When Fate runs its course And Destiny is shown Who comes out for the worse? What of all the innocent ones Dancing in the light of the sun? Twirling through the blue To golden towers in the sky While those they loved Live with tears in their eyes and Empty spaces in their hearts? With old lives we all must part For a new era is about to start.
