On my laptop, if I were to run defrag and shut my laptop would it still be running?  What if I left it open and it went into sleep mode? It has been running for about 7 hours now. -- Posted by marshmellowman at 5:10 am on Sep. 11, 2008 If it was running defrag it wouldn't sleep because it isn't idle. if you're worried about it shutting down when you close the lid, turn of the sleep/hibernate function for the lid closed settings. Usually when I see my processor being used for no good reason, I find that Vista Defrag has run when it wasn't set to, achieving nothing. Stick with a third party defragmentation program.
