My roommate left yesterday to go back home to visit her boyfriend. She's staying at his place... which, I don't really care because they're 18 and it's none of my business anyway. Problem is, she told me and our other roommate not to tell anyone she was going back home. And I guess during this time she also hasn't been answering her parents' calls because her parents called my roommate and I asking where their daughter was. They called each of us 3 times and left messages. I got another call just this past hour! I feel horrible! I don't like to lie especially when someone is as concerned as her parents are. I feel like by protecting my roommate I'm always sacrificing a lot of the morals and beliefs I have and I *hate* it. When she comes home, I feel like telling her that I don't like lying for her, but I don't know if that's a good idea or not. What do you think?

its not a good idea. her parents could drive to where u r and knock on the door demanding to know where there daughter is. they could call the police and have them looking for her. you'll have to tell u can't lie for her. she can lie for herself. she can tell her parents she's at some other friends house. or its none of there business. she's 18. tell her to get a cell phone. her parents will be calling her not u.

They have been calling her cellphone! She just refuses to answer them, I suppose. Her parents also have our (my other roommate and I's cell phone numbers) so they're calling us too.

Whens she coming back? Call her up and tell her to call her parents to tell her that she is OKAY, otherwise you will do it yourself. I wouldn't get involved with lying directly to her parents, avoid their phone calls unless she refuses to call them herself. They're probably worried sick.

damn. i never did that shit, when my roomies parents called me, i would just always be straight up honest, hes at the hockey game, or hes studying down the hall or something. but seriously dont lie to them it looks bad on you, however at the same time you gotta live with her, and she can make life hell. so its very much a tough decision, honestly give her parents your RA's number. or the halls number. that way they can call and go from there. its not your responsibilty in the end to be babysitting.
