Well?

It's no longer compulsory for me, but I'm taking 3 languages anyway.

-- Posted by Alabamarama at 3:42 am on Sep. 21, 2008

Yes. I don't have to be in a language for the rest of high school, but I'm taking two anyways.

It's not compulsory for me but I'm taking Japanese next year (year 10), since I've been learning since year 7. Although there's so many other things I want to do, it sucks that we only get to pick 2 (and a 3rd one, incase we don't get the options we wanted).

No

-- Posted by Eos at 3:50 am on Sep. 21, 2008

Its no longer compulsory for me. But I'm taking french and German because I'm coollllllll.

-- Posted by BLUEAUTOMATIC at 3:50 am on Sep. 21, 2008

No, because the education system failed me.

Next question.

It's not compulsory anymore but i've taken French

-- Posted by MaryLin at 3:59 am on Sep. 21, 2008

It's always been compulsory for me to take a foreign language. In grades 1-7 I had to take Finnish, I've had English ever since I started 3rd grade and I've had Russian since 6th grade. In 10th grade French was added and so I'm taking 3 foreign languages right now and I'm in 12th grade.

Yeah, I did German to A-level. I wanted to take Irish and French to GCSE aswell, but the way our school worked meant that it wasn't possible for me to do more than one language and to study music at the same time.

I loooooooooved languages though. Will definitely be taking up Irish, and possibly Spanish, at some point whenever I go back home.

I passed out of the requirement level for college with a test, but I'm still taking Spanish and plan on taking it continuously and possibly minoring in it.

-- Posted by Bacon at 4:40 am on Sep. 24, 2008

No, because I know English.

Why would I bother with anything else?

-- Posted by Lulu Nobody at 11:33 am on Sep. 24, 2008

Yes. And I'm majoring in Japanese, picking up a minor in French and planning on taking all four Polish language classes here at my university.

-- Posted by Day Old Blues at 12:35 pm on Sep. 24, 2008

Yeah, I'm doing German GCSE.

-- Posted by Medicated Smile at 5:14 pm on Sep. 25, 2008

Japanese/ASL.

Once I'm done with my three years of Spanish so I can be in scholars and NHS, I'll be done taking foreign language at school. I can't learn anything in those classes.

-- Posted by junose at 2:03 pm on Sep. 27, 2008

French was compulsory for me. from grade 1 to 9, then I chose to take the course again in grade 10, but I dropped it in 11.

-- Posted by Seanee at 7:37 am on Sep. 28, 2008

No I didn't.

-- Posted by nikki at 7:37 am on Sep. 28, 2008

Yeah, I took both French and German to A-level, and I'm studying French at university.

To communicate with other cultures outside your own or other english speaking cultures and not to expect them to speak english?

And yes I took Spanish and French at GCSE, Spanish at A level and hope to do Spanish and (only if I go to lancaster uni) possibly italian too at Uni :)

Only two years is even recommended at my school. I'm on my fifth year of french and I'm taking sign language this year. I'll probably take spanish next year.
