So im 16,sophmore,and I plan on going to the Army as Airborne Infantry, and eventually going Ranger. But im so anxious to go,and have been for years, and i CONSTANTLY find myself doing nothing but watching war movies,or day dreaming of me in combat situations. Hell,I dont want to die in combat, but im not worried about it if i do. Is this normal?for someone to  be so enthusiastic at the idea of entering combat?I come from a good home, good parents, etc. etc. and theirs def alot of people in my family thatd be hurt if i died, and my mom says itd be selfish of me to become a Ranger(One of the most dangerous jobs in the Military). IDK. What are you're guy's opinions.

Hi warcrawl.  My name is Shaun, and I am currently in ROTC at college.

I would say that it is your own life, man.  Finding something that you love doing and makes you happy is a good thing.  I would make sure, as with any big life step, that you properly educate yourself on the subject.  Talk to people that have already done Airborne and Ranger.  Get their perspective.  It isn't selfish to do something that you like doing.

As for it being "normal", it is something that you are interested it.  Of course you are going to be enthusiastic and pursue knowledge in the area.  It's only natural.  It would happen with a lot of things!

Feel free to keep in contact, and instant message me whenever.

~Shaun

If that is what you want to do pursue it.  When you are 18 (17 with GED or early graduation and parental consent) you are able to join and I say go ahead.  I am not too much of a military person myself but I can acknowledge the need for a military in a modern world, and you would be part of it.

Only about 25% of candidates make it through I believe is the figure.

Still a high number when compared to the French Foreign Legion where only 8-10% of people make it in.
