When i went for blood work, they found that my T4 cell count is low. they've done 2 more tests to watch me, and now i'm on a hypothyroid medication.

Just wondering, they would have done an HIV test, to rule that out, correct? I would think it would have been one of the first things they test for, since it is one of the most severe and it affects your T4 cells.

i'd be scared if i was you

I have never had unprotected sex before.
but i know things can still happen, and i AM very worried.
Because the hypothyroid medication isn't working for my symptoms, so i'm thinking that it isn't the condition that I have.

But it doesn't make any sense that if my T4 levels are low, they wouldn't test for HIV.

One would hope they would tell you to test if that's the case. If you're worried about it, get one of those 20 min HIV tests done where they just scrape your gums.

Hmm, maybe you ingested something infected with it as you were younger?  The actual chances of you being infected are slim-to-none, though.  Don't tense yourself about it.

Do you know how low your cell count is?

not the exact numbers but it's not too severe because they waited and watched it for 3 months before they decided to put me on medication... and still my docter was kind of on the fence about whether it was bad enough to do the medicine or not.

Then I'm sure it's not HIV, did they give you another blood test after three months?

they gave me one every month. The first one they discovered my low t4, then they gave me another one in a month, and then another one in another month. Just to watch it.
But i heard HIV takes 6-8 years before it becomes aids? (low t4 count?)

Don't you think you might learn more by actually asking your doctor about your concerns?

My step mum has HIV and has a low t4 count, I think Aids is just where it is so low that you're going to die soon. They can tell if you have HIV 3 months after becoming infected. I really wouldn't worry. But if it's still worrying you just talk to your doctor and I'm sure they will be able to reassure you.
