I'm Irish, but not from Ireland.

Am I still stupid?

Read the article dumbasses, you are not Irish just because your great-grandmommy is from Ireland. The wealth of your nation is the American wealth.

-- Posted by major at 6:27 pm on Oct. 9, 2008

it's linked more to familial wealth than to actual national wealth

I once got 160 on an IQ test.

I think it may have been slightly generous, though my mum did it after and got 105.

IQ tests aren't valid unless administered by a registered psychologist.

For starters I.Q tests are notoriously culturally biased, secondly Ireland has an incredibly difficult and impressive education system.
The leaving certificate is far more difficult than the majority of and arguably all other exam systems for school leavers.

IQ tests are adjusted to remove cultural bias, so if anything they've been adjusted in your favor.

No, they're rarely adjusted the majority are standard the few times the have been changed it was to point out that culturally bias.

For example I.Q. tests are regularly used to reinforce racist or bigoted views, researchers carried out I.Q. tests on aboriginal children and argued that the test proved that they were less intelligent than white people. Another researcher used a different test which stated that aboriginal children were more intelligent, because it focused on more perceptual intelligence which was high for them given there environment. Neither group is more intelligent, the tests results can just easily be manipulated.

I.Q testing is only really useful for identifying people who may have learning difficulties.

The IQ sytem is obviously flawed as hell if there are national averages at 59.

An educated kid with down syndrome can score an eighty.

It's not a real factor of intelligence, it's a factor of education, at least up to 120ish I'd say. After 120, intelligence probably matters more than education, but still, the system itself is extraordinarily flawed if you have nations averaging in the sixties, unless these nations are like 80% people with mental handicaps.

Yeah, but you can also train your mind to process things faster if you're exposed to more stuff, so even the 'intelligence' part is incredibly biased as it's dependent on so many factors while they pretend it represents some innate potential
