In 2007 a study said that roughly 12% of Americans were athiests or agnostics.

The same study showed that in European countries most of the figures were closer to 50%, having UK at 40+, and Sweden at 80.

The tables are turning hardcore in the world.

Europe already went through the religious extremism, economies falling behind other world economies, a lack of civil liberties compared to other developed countries etc.

America is becoming the new old Europe.

"America is become the new old Europe."

I laughed at the wording.

B-) very interesting. :]

Yep.  And you'll notice the least religious countries also have the best economies and living conditions.

Poor America.

If America really became the new "old europe" I'd totally move there.
Alas there was rather more to it than religious fervor (although that was one of the prettier things about it).

All we need now is a religious revolution.

Of course, which is why I noted we are also starting to actually lack in civil liberties compared to european countries as well as our production capacity and competitiveness has decreased significantly.

We used to be the production power-house of the world. We fueled the Allies in WW2 with our massive production capabilities. Now we have the longest hours of any workforce, with people running 2-3 jobs to pay the mortgage or the rent, and yet we actually have some of the least goods produced per hours worked out of the other developed countries in Europe.

You can't say that as the French Revolution was going on and everyone was championing civil liberties, America wasn't already on top in that respect.

I mean Russia was still dealing with Catherine, and she was a fairly despotic bitch that liked to claim she enjoyed the enlightenment.

Religious freedom wasn't really established in Europe till the late 18th century, while in America there was more co-existance of different religions.

England freed the slaves first though. England has seemingly kept in step with civil liberties, despite the common myth in American's minds that they were tyrants just because we started a revolution to leave the empire.

America is a noob. But literally, it has been around for only about 300 years or so. Which means it is very young, when compared to other wealthy countries (European for example). So it might be developed economically, but culturally it is still young.

Theism =/= religious extremism. Yes, we are more religious than Europe. No, I don't think that's going to bring us anywhere near where religions that no longer exist brought Europe.

nothing at all.   IMO, it's only bad if you let religion do all your thinking and decision making.
