Can you explain to me (being english) what thanksgiving is? Its on all the American films and the topic before made me realise i dont actually understand what it is

When the pilgrims came to America, the indians helped them out, so they had a feast. That's Thanksgiving.

Its being thankful that we could plunder the native American's land. We celebrate it by eating turkey and delicious pies.

For Americans, it's when Native Americans and Pilgrims dined on the food that the Native Americans helped them grow, hunt, and cook. Then we stole their land and killed them with blankets.

I'm "from Canada" and I have no clue what it's about. And it's common knowledge what the american one is about. Maybe it's us trying to copy off of them.
