American schools are not taught metric system why do we have to learn it now in college?

America isn't the only country on Earth. At some point, you will have to work with documents or even people from less backwards nations.

What is there to teach? It's computed in base 10, the values have a timeless representation (on Earth) and it's used all over the world. Having to 'learn' the metric system is like learning how to use a porta-john.
