Sure, it sounds cool being able to call yourself a Philosophy major. Just like communism sounds cool on paper. However, when actually executing the process you soon realize how ridiculous scholarly philosophy is. You are presented with topics people have been arguing for for centuries and in the end nothing really matters. For you see, two opposing arguments can both have the same value of truth to them.

Philosophy has turned into a snuff fest with people who have to much leisure time on their hands and want a quick route to intellectual stardom. "I wrote a magnificent paper on the problems of Free Will and it was published and well accepted into the Philosophic community" one could say and this assertion would easily help you bang chicks. Sadly, most philosophers are balding and not one for the sex.

For you see, philosophy is the inquisitions into life's issues. Wait, wait, wait. I take that back. Philosophy was the inquisition, however, now its become the game of 'who can make a better argument about abstract concepts with use of thought experiments that have the likelihood of occurring 1/1000000000000." And what better way is to kill yourself from the inside out, so you can be a 3rd party ghost on your quest for wisdom!

But my thought is that one doesn't go looking for wisdom as through one's actions of being wisdom comes to you.

I would strongly suggest taking one philosophy course or two about subjects you find dear. Some good ones would be modern philosophy, metaphysics and existentialism. However stray away from the Ancient Greek as you would have a better time, I believe, wikipediaing.

That is all.

Mhm. That major is actually practical as there is room for progress. Unlike philosophy, where you keep running around in circles.

Philosophy is like the caucus race!

My cousin switched her major from Political Science to Philosophy. Personally, I think she would have done better with the PS, but what do I know?

I love philosophy, but I'd never consider majoring in it.

I plan on taking a few classes on it, but I'll major in something that has more practical applications.

Philosophy is the mother of all science. But that said, it's outdated.
