You know I was thinking on the bus yesterday. There is no dispute over whether a Jesus of Nazareth existed c.0-33AD Whether he was the son of God or not....I think its fair to say that no other person has ever and will ever have made such an effect on the world.

who says there is no dispute? I have never heard of any proof of the existence in 17 years as a catholic?!

There were many Jesus' at that time. And some people actually do discount Jesus of Nazareth as we recognize it, actually existed.

Id be interested if you could source me that. I had a conversation about it with my lecturer yesterday. Specifically Jesus of Nazareth. I know there were lots of Jesus' but one from Nazareth kicked up quite a storm.

I didnt think Id have to be doing this, but many historians, writers, philosophers, etc, alive at the time, speak of a Jesus of Nazareth. There is too much written, primary evidence to argue it out. Unless youre really stupid.

There's like loads of sites on the Internet that talk about it. Google "Did Jesus actually exist?" and the first result says some things. Its not really just one reason. Multiple reasons.

But like I said, nobody argues it in the scientific world. Theres too much written evidence, too many reputable scholars from the same time are all speaking of a Jesus of Nazareth. You cant argue it. and from previous experience when you type statements like that in google and get text, i find it usually chooses what it wants as evidence and completely ignores other facts. Try 'Proof the US won the Vietnam War'

Im actually not arguing his existence. I merely commented on your statement that its not disputed. Because it is. Now, whether the sources and evidence they use is credible, thats up for you to decide.

Yeah, but I'd have hoped that in using the intellectual forum, we would be speaking intellectually, and in doing a so a debate would be a several professors and doctors with a degree in the area to make a reputable claim on the subject.

"in doing a so a debate would be a several professors and doctors with a degree in the area to make a reputable claim on the subject." You're expecting that? You're saying those kind of sources questioning the existence of Jesus don't exist? I may not have the source but to so they dont exist is crazy.

But I didnt make this topic to discuss whether Jesus existed or not :/

Ok to be more fair, you're probably right. "Jesus" as we know him, changed this world drastically and probably the most. It wouldn't be anywhere close to what it is today without him. Thats "as we know him."

well yeah, I mean it shaped what Europe looks like today and so on... But socially speaking. How much of the modern human mindset is a result of him? I mean one man caused massive controversy for 2 millenia - the crusades, the reformation, art, debates in science, sex, etc. and hes still doing it.

There is no doubt that Jesus of Nazareth was a very good moral philosopher who was way ahead of his time. The son of God? He was probably deluded or misunderstood. The wally should have left some evidence in writing.

He.. kind of.. did.. Just some, the bible isn't enough evidence. 57 books, for the most part written by quite a few different people with different sources. Evidence enough for me. According to The 100: A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History, he's the third most influential person in history. I think, though, that he should be higher than Newton. Muhammad is questionable, but if you go by sheer numbers, I think he still would have influenced more.

Its funny how that man who wrote that does not hold a degree in history or sociolgy or even psychology and yet he published that....

Theres no credible sources out there saying Jesus didnt exist, theres only blogs and unrestircted, unverified internet sources, and fictious novels. Go to Academia and Jews, Christians, Athiests alike all agree alot on Jesus
