Ok, I'm not very tech savy when it comes to this stuff, so i was wondering if anyone could help me out. The last few days my wireless has been acting up. One minute I was online, everything was fine, then i shut the laptop and the next minute there is no wireless connection. I haven't had this problem before. HP wireless connections won't show up and in the device manager, my wireless adapter isn't there. I don't know how it could just disappear like that, I'm pretty sure it's not a virus or anything. I've looked around and have been told that i need to update the bios, so i did that, but that still didn't work. Can someone help me out, please?

That sometimes happens to me, and its acutally my router, i just reset it and then its fine. because if the router isn't putting anything through the wireless adapter, your computer won't get anything. or sometimes i just turn off my wireless adapter and then turn it on and it works... or even the transmitter too.

Restart.

Hmm that's very strange. Are you sure it's not something simple like accidentally flicking the WiFi switch (which some laptops have) to the off position? Try running the Add Hardware wizard. Also, you could try doing a System Restore.

i thought about that, accidentally flicking the WiFi switch, but thats not it, normally if i did that, it would tell me that wireless is disabled, I flicked the switch anyway and the light stays orange, which indicates that its off, either way. I know its not the router too, I've reset it many times, although we have been having problems with that as well, but thats different, its the company's fault. I've restarted more than 10 times in the past 2 days.

That sounds a lot like what happens with me sometimes. At first I thought it was just that my laptop's wireless wasn't working until I tried using a hard line into my laptop, and the connection still wasn't there. What was happening to me was that occasionally the router would get too hot and start to malfunction, or so I think. When I moved it into a better position so that it wouldn't overheat it stopped happening. So, I guess you can try that to see if it helps.

I'll try moving the router, that might solve some of the other problems we've been having, although I'm using a hard line right now, my wireless is the only thing that's messed up and i notice that it didn't start screwing up until after i updated to vista service pack 1. Which i don't get. Is there anyway i can just download the driver for the adapter, maybe it will recognize it or something?

Just to confirm what you're saying.... the computer's lights indicate that the WiFi adapter is off when the switch is on AND when it is off? This would suggest that there may have been some kind of hardware failure.

yes, i switch to the on position, the light is orange, it should be blue, i switch to the off position, the light is orange. I don't know. The light indicates that the wireless assistant is on. The wireless assistant doesn't even show up anymore.
