Biotechnology allows us to use living organisms or their processes for human needs or purposes. Currently, this topic includes such general examples as cloning, stem cells (adult, umbilical cord, and embryonic), DNA fingerprinting, biological warfare, bioremediation, genetically modified organisms, vaccines, and transgenic plants and animals to name a few.

Research how a SPECIFIC biotechnology application within the above GENERAL examples (or ones not listed above) is used today and answer the following questions:

  1. What specific biotechnology application did you choose?
  2. Briefly describe this biotechnology application.
  3. What benefits are derived from this application?
  4. Are there any concerns or negative impacts associated with this use of biotechnology? Why or why not?

Okay..

Manufacture of insulin/other substances using genetically modified bacteria?  Or even pencillin production using non-GM fungal cells.

WTF... Is this your homework assignment or something? You obviously don't know what you are talking about or at least are clueless to the context of these forums.

Have you chosen a subject to talk about?

Marfan syndrome

First you need to be able to understand what you just copied and change it to make it relevant to us because there is no way we are just going to do your homework for you. Even then, YOU will still need to be doing the research.

HINT: The first part of the question gives away the answer you need... you just need to do the research.

right.. i was just wondering if anyone had any good disorders that have a lot of info about them!  i have never really dealth with any disorders, so i am kinda unware of some!

And how will knowing about anyone's disorders on this website help you at all unless you're trying to find a human clone on a teen web forum...? It is true that someone may be using a vaccine that could have at one point dealt with DNA testing in it's production history but just because someone is on a prescription drug, doesn't mean they are drug experts.

Maybe you should just stick to the GIVEN examples and research those. For example, my bf does bioengineering for a lab that extracts dna from a large verity of samples ranging from male hair care products to the production of home pregnancy tests to who knows what else.

You're not going to find any answered on your quest for sick people...
