So work rostered me on for a day I can't work.. On my availability sheet I said I could but the next morning I knew I couldn't so I sent them an email saying I wasn't able to work. This was a week before the roster was finalised. I'm still rostered on and they are really anal about the rosters and no one can change with me because everyone is working that day and a couple people are unavaiable. I'm about to call them up now..what should I say and who's in the right here..

EDIT: Sorry, I'm tired and not thinking at 100%. It depends on why you can't work that day. My opinion: If it's really all that important, ask them to take the day off and they'll understand. Otherwise, you'll have to decide if this event is more important that your attendance or even your job itself.

Ah, my job used to be like that; if you can't work it you can't work it. They'll have to find someone else to replace you. If you can try and get a colleague to swap, if not just apologise. In my mind a weeks plenty of notice for you to give.
