OK, so Microsoft have given us a little bit more detail of their new version of Windows. What are people thinking of it so far? I am very impressed with what i have seen so far, the libraries and search functionality looks good, as does all the media related stuff, window management etc. Here are a few links to some articles with lots of description and screen-shots: http://gizmodo.com/5069661/windows-7-walkthrough-boot-video-and-impressions http://www.flickr.com/photos/31242879@N00/sets/72157608452379413/ http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20081028-first-look-at-windows-7.html

so, how long before it's out. I bet they will not give vista a long life, as how unpopular it became

Wow, it looks like Microsoft is finally starting to get the whole OS thing under control. I might upgrade to that on the PC, I'm still running XP on that (lulz)

I think they should change the interface again, but have it so the specs are the same for the Vista Aero interface.

What do you mean? This OS is based on the vista core, although lighter so if it works under vista it will work on 7. Also, to answer the person who asked when it was coming out, from what we can gather, end of 2009. It is a little hard to tell, but it sounds like that is the number everyone think.

I mean, I don't like how vista looks. I like the aero interface, but not the new start bar, etc..

Vista has a classic theme...

I am actually impressed with the way they are creating Windows 7. I must say that I use Windows XP right now over Windows Vista for many reasons, although Windows 7 is promising. I have been following it closely and they seem to be back on track with creating a proper OS. Especially for the current day and age where touch screens and touch pads are becoming more common.

Name is confirmed and set in stone. It will be Windows 7 for sure. Anyways, I like it. Im liking the new interface. I think its just different enough from Vista that people will get that its not the same OS, and wont expect it to be (even though I like Vista). My only qualm is the Mac users. It has a slightly OSX feel to it, and I know the Mac users are going to be all "They totally stole that from us" attitude. In reality, if it was stolen from anyone, it was stolen from KDE 4.0 Either way, Im liking it. I love the lightweight core. I love the fact that it will run like a powerhouse on my desktop, and I will still be able to use it on a Netbook type machine. I like how they are moving towards integrating Zune with Windows (nothing official, but theres alot of side talk, and just look at the WMP interface, it looks ALOT like Zune). I like where MS is taking this. Im hoping that it will all be tight, and just work. Thats the important thing. If there is a bunch of drivers issues (shouldnt be) then Im jumping ship. Oh, and the Networking. They have already said it will be improved, and Im really hoping for some tighter integration with Windows Home Server. I think that could only work in their favor.

I actually haven't been following Win7. I've seen some glimpses of it in the past, but haven't really paid much attention. In the end, most of these pictures only show the UI, and I'll admit, it looks pretty. Of course I'll be installing it when it comes out. PDC was supposed to have some other big annoucements, but I have since forgotten what they were... ;d It's amazing how the public and press seems to know more than me. :)

If you have a little look round you will find videos of annoyingly enthusiastic people showing it off. The functionality is far above the UI changes in my opinion so far.

Windows 7 appears to go against microsofts previous Beta's Build 6801 is far more stable than Vista's Release Build, Letalone previous Beta builds of Vista, I would LOVE to have attended the PDC, But being in NZ and only being 16 leaves me a little too short changed to do so, to say the least lol

Hope this comes out within the next year.

I like the document folders. However the start menu, imo, is ugly. The task bar - is windows trying too hard to beat vista?
