Because the foundation of Christianity is based around acceptance of Jesus as the son of God, etc etc.

Because, apparently, you can be a horrible, disgusting, judgemental person, but as long as you believe in Jesus and confess your sins, you will get into heaven, but that wonderfully nice gay man down the street won't, because he's gay...

you can't get a set of values from a book which commands you to kill adulterers. you must have preset values, which are probably where you differ from other people, since no two people are the same. regarding the god thing, it doesn't affect how morally different you are from someone who does believe. though it could potentially mean that your motives are true and less selfish. is it really moral to do good if you are expecting an immense reward for it

That is true, religion tries to use the "after life" of Heaven or Hell, to make people be "good", when in reality when you die you just decompose in a box underground.

I meant the basic values. Man people respond with some stupid stuff. I believe in the basic values of the bible, not what it commands.

you have to have morals before reading the book in order to distinguish between the commands and the values otherwise you wouldn't know what was a command and what was a value, they're all cited as being things that god likes and wants you to do

You would like Greek mythology, I think. It talks about scare tactics and stuff like that. How at first, everybody went to the same underworld, but then Plato said that if you're good, you get a reward, but if you're bad, you get squat. And how Xenophanes (or was it Xenophan?) said that the Greeks created gods to act as a "cosmic police force" The idea obviously stuck...

I did have morals before i skimmed the book. It's not like I read the book and suddenly gained morality or my morals changed. And I don't care if 'god' likes what I do or not. Stop trying to teach me common sense.

Say, like me, that you believe there is this thing called "heaven". Then you will probably get to heaven. Heaven, as I know it, is the acceptance of God. When you die, "supposedly", we'll see God face to face. Are you going to be retarded enough to be like... "bah, I still don't care. Whatever?" Unless you do that, you'll go to Heaven. According to Catholic teachings, at least. I think. :/

Recently I've been going to classes to become Catholic and ...that's not what I got told. I got told 1) no-one can know if they're going to heaven (to assume so is presumption, a sin, to assume you won't is despair, also a sin). 2) We (mankind) are bound by the sacraments (and in this case most importantly baptism, confession and last rites). 3) God is not bound by the sacraments, and is more merciful than any of us can probably seem. How that actually effects things is not known, but it makes it acceptable to hope that a lot more than just baptised people dying in a state of grace might make it. However it is not a guarantee of such things.

Not quite. The burden of proof is on he who makes the positive claim; ergo, while they can't claim 100% that God cannot exist (as absence of evidence is not evidence of absence), the burden of proof is on those who claim He does. Which is why I never get into the whole "lawl prove it" thing in theological or philosophical debates...it's just an exercise in futility.
