Many MANY religions insist that god is perfect, and yet the ultimate good. if perfect represents all-encompassing, than isn't God evil as well? and insane? and immoral? in some instances. If so, the devil cant exist, because the opposite of god would be nothingness.

There is no nothing. Once you define it, it is now something.

exactly the paradox, meaning that god is also: nothing.

ahh, would you believe that god is not a being, but a force instead? a verb rather than a noun?

We can argue for hours. If a God is, in fact, perfect, there is no way you can comprehend it with your feeble mind. I mean human, not your personal - so no offence. Moreover, there're couple theories like that. If got is omnipotent, he must be able to create a rock so huge and heavy, he himself won't be able to lift it. If he doesn't do either, he must not be omnipotent. My point of view on God, religions, reincarnation, all stuffs like that: all is theoretical - if there's no possible indication any of this exists - it cannot because there' noone to prove it. More easily understandable - if you can't prove there's God, it doesn't matter whether he exists or not. If you don't remember you past life - there's no difference between there being reincarnation and not. Don't start those topics - they always lead to fights, since noone can ever prove their point...

Force is a noun :-P Beings are imperfect by definition, since they have no physical form. If God is force, he is unconscious, and pretty much as all-powerful as the Gravity....

Cut it out. None can prove anything. I'm agnostic, and I like it. I just don't care. Topics like these lead to nothing. Maybe ban :-P
-- Posted by MushroomSatsujin at 8:33 pm on Oct. 31, 2008
God is everything. He is the alpha and omega. He is the black and the white. He is all-encompassing. He cannot be defined.

I was joking... i dont care either. this is nowhere near ban strength, it's a debate of philosophy and language apparently. i'm not trying to prove anything, just broaden my own perspective. If you dont like it, leave.

even though by using the pronoun "he" you just gave god a gender and a body.

Haha, good point. And, anonymous, I did not mean you'd be banned. I'm just saying ppl tend to fight and curse over this, report each other. Ends up with ban. I meant no offence to you and your topic...

Wow, because we haven't heard that argument over 9000 times on this forum alone. And my view is that all religions worship some aspect of the same one God, pantheons represent multiple facets (or similar beings to angels). Or perhaps monotheists are the ones that don't have it quite right, and it's actually a pantheon. I guess I'm something of an agnostic theist but I avoid saying that because people don't know what agnostic actually means. Whatever.

You are trying to dig a hole through solid steel. Applying logic and reason to deities is a futile effort. Gods are inherently illogical and nonsensical.

What you consider evil and what "God" considers evil are two different things.

I think your paradox might stem from your self-made definition of perfection.
