President? or CEO? or Racecar Driver?

But considering all the shit minorities in America have gone through (The japanese put in concentration camps, slavery for blacks, native americans on reservations, and discrimination for all), and considering how it wasn't that long ago when all this happened, isn't it great to see how far said race, and America has come?

Yes, it is a very big deal.

And it is something to be proud of when your country can go from enslaving a race or putting them on reservations, to having them be some of the top (insert position of power here) in the country.

Does that not speak to how great this country is?

To say that it doesn't matter, say, that Barack Obama won the presidency (that's he's black/why should we care/etc.) is to essentially discredit the fact that many people had racial misgivings just thirty years ago.

So yes, it's important. After the first, it won't. But as of now, it is.

How do people not understand this?

He hasn't been president yet.

How do you know?

I agree with it all. But not the "Does that not speak to how great this country is?" part. If any country was so great then none of these bad things would of happened to begin with.

I completely understand. It filled me with pride and hope and just so many emotions. America is changing whether people want to see it or not. It is indeed incredible to witness it.

I agree, but what nations in history do you consider great? Greece? Rome maybe?. The fact of the matter is just about every "great nation" that has every existed has had some sort of slavery or mass racial discrimination in its history

What about the Negroes in Africa that weren't ruled by Whites?

The Hispanics in Hispanic nations?

The Japanese in Japan? Remember, the natives of Japan are treated worse than the Natives of America.
