I'm just curious. What do you all consider Barack Obama? I've been hearing nothing but he's a black guy, when he really is not... Black = African American and nothing else. His mother was white and his father was black. Oh and just for shits and giggles, here is a pic of me. Would you call me mixed, white or black just based on my skin tone? lol

Mixed. But for the sake of argument, I'd say black compared to white.
-- Posted by nyn at 5:00 am on Nov. 6, 2008
He is mixed, so I consider him mixed...? Why think of him as anything but the truth?
-- Posted by Tyrant at 5:00 am on Nov. 6, 2008

No you are wrong. Black has always been African American. It's until recently people with low intelligences have been calling multi racial people black.
-- Posted by SimbaGrrl at 5:05 am on Nov. 6, 2008
Well I'd say black. But I know he's mixed really And I'd call you black, but you look mixed.
-- Posted by Lulu Nobody at 5:07 am on Nov. 6, 2008
Well, I know he's mixed so I'd say mixed, but he does look more African-American than mixed. And that picture of you? Honestly, you look Hispanic to me, so that's what I could assume. The skin tone just makes me think that, because I grew up with a lot of Hispanic people, some that had skin dark enough to be considered Black lol. But if I didn't know what you were, I'd say you were Hispanic.

The old textbook definition described a black person as having even as little as 1/16'th black blood in the genes to qualify as black. People who didn't even look black were black because someone in their family tree married a black person.

He's obviously mixed. I think people who say he is black needs to go and see an eye doctor. Either that or they need to use common sense. Mixed isn't just black.

black =/= african american and nothing else that is SO simplistic I'm surprised you could even type it up. That ignores the entire history of mixing between african slaves and native americans, ignores long histories of slaves being raped by white people, ignores black latinos (when the term latino has more to do with your language or location than skin color). To be black is often not to know. The one drop rule has been in place for generations and it is only now starting to be questioned. Now that said, people of mixed race are often ignored and it is nice to see his mixed ancestry recognized. So he's black, and mixed, and african. Things don't have to be so black and white you know.

If we're looking at Obama's race strictly from a biological point of view, or however you'd like to call that, he's clearly mixed. White heritage on one side and black heritage on the other. If we're looking at it from a more social perspective, then I'd say Obama is more black than white. While I'm sure he doesn't treat his white half of his family any differently, he appears to identify more with blacks than whites, considering a few things such as his church, as well as statements about it made by himself. It'd be nice if Obama nor anyone else even paid attention to his race. I personally find it of such little relevance that it bugs me how it's constantly brought up, especially lately through how he "made history." I simply perceive Obama as any other individual, now our future president, and honestly nothing more.

Having dark pigment in ur skin makes u BLACK, regardless of ur genetics, it's what people will see u as and treat u as, even though he really is mixed.
-- Posted by kidd rune at 2:35 pm on Nov. 6, 2008
Mixed. He has an Alpinoid-Med-Bruenn mother (with some Amerind ancestry) and a Negro father.
-- Posted by runthespread at 3:57 am on Nov. 8, 2008
Multi. He looks Black but is also White. He lived some years in an Asian country and grew up in Hawaii, a state known for it's multi-cultural blend (which doesn't have a high population of Blacks or Muslims, by the way).
