I was just informed by my sons father that he refuses to put his name on the birth certificate. IS there anything i can do about this?
-- Posted by katrinadoodle at 1:18 pm on Nov. 11, 2008
Nope. He has to sign it. If he refuses, you'll have to take it to court to establish paternity.

He has too... he is the dad after all, you have to state who the dad is.

Take him to court. They'll order him to take a paternity test and then he'll have to have his name on it.

Why doesn't he want to put his name on the birth certificate? Doesn't want the kid? You can consult a lawyer and ask for a paternity test. But, all of this will cost you money. Good Luck

Well i have to report to my caseworker when my son is born. Which will be within the next few days. Apparently all i do is give them his name and they'll find him. He wont give me his new address or anything. All i have is his phone number.

Ufortunately' she cannot make him do it. Nor does he have to sign it. All he has to do us say that he doesnt want to or doesn't believe he is the father. op if you want him on there you will have to take him to court. I would highly suggest it. If you dont he can refuse child support later on and you will then have to prove that the child is his. Unless you are willing to allow him to sign away all parental rights which means no child support no visitation etc.

If he doesn't want anything to do with the baby, be a big girl about it. Don't force someone into being a parent just because you want to be. That will just lead to a bad relationship with your son and resentment.

She needs to atleast get him for child support. There is no reason that she should have to take all of the burden because the day before delivery he decides that he doesn't want his name on the birth certificate.

It's her choice, obviously, but I've always been of the position that you shouldn't force someone into paying for your child just because you wanted to continue with the pregnancy. Women have the option of abortion, but what do men have? She made the choice to keep the baby knowing it would be hard, and taking him to court to squeeze money out of him isn't something I would do. Anyways, she can't force him to claim a baby he doesn't want, and she can't force him to be on the birth certificate, and honestly if he treats her like that I don't know why she would want him to have anything to do with the child. But if she decides to take him to court then that's her choice. I'm just saying I know many young mothers who have opted against forcing someone into claiming responsibility for something they're clearly not ready to handle, and they do just fine. It's the more mature response, in my opinion. Not that my opinion has any influence on her life, of course. But hey, if she can't do it by herself then she can't do it by herself. Maybe she should have thought of that before deciding to keep the baby, but it's too late for that now, isn't it?

yeahh he doesn't have to sign the birth certificate but that doesnt really matter. Will he sign the ackowledgement of paternity paper? Make sure you know his name address and social security number go to the local courthouse and they will court order a paternity test which he has to take. When it comes out he is the dad, then you go for child support. Don't let him get away without paying his half. I know at my local courthouse if you keep the reciepts from buying a criib and stuff the judge might make him pay you back for all that stuff. I have done a lot of search into it, im 38 weeks pregnant & still with the baby'sdad who is my boyfriend but to be safe i figured this all out. hope i was helpful.

He WANTED the baby up until a few weeks ago. He told me he'd hate me for life if i got an abortion. I dont WANT him in the baby's life, i just want his name on the certificate so i can get my childsupport. Im not making him be an active role in the baby's life.

You can't really have it both ways. If you force him to pay child support, that means he has the right to be in the childs life. If you let him off without child support(and without signing the birth certificate), he can't be in the child's life if you don't let him. As far as getting child support, you are going to have to take him to court to get a paternity test. Which is gonna cost some money.
