I posted this on the regular forums and came up with fake shit.

What do you want your last words to be? Do you want to have last words? I feel like intellectuals will take this question more seriously.

Mine would be:
I've always wanted to use big words, and I've never found a way. So I'll say this in the simplest of terms: I love you. So much. All of you. Keep walking, walk to a sunrise. It's the most and the least you can do.

I'll continue to continue, to pretend, my life will never end, and that flowers never bend, in the rainfall.

-- Posted by MixedDelight at 8:16 pm on Nov. 11, 2008

I'm not sure what I would say. It depends who was standing near me. O whether I was murdered or not.

If I was murdered I'd confuse my murderer by telling them I loved them. If it was my family I'd tell them the same.

I'd probably just leave the world with love. :/

I'd have to go with something along the lines of "End Scene" or "Fin."

"I am not going to die. I will just no longer be here."

Beautiful song.

I honestly can't say I would know what I would want my last words to be.   I think it would depend on what I was dying of and the events that had caused it/led up to it.

Personally, I have a hard time really appreciating the significance of "last words." I know that, obviously, the last thing you say is the last thing you say, but I think the words that I'll use throughout the rest of my life will carry with them a great deal more meaning, particularly considering that if I die of old age in a hospital bed after a long illness, my last words may very well be "I really wish they'd served the red Jell-O after lunch" or something along those lines.

I also have no intention and see no purpose in making a great speech before I die, unless I'm executed publically like Anne Boleyn. Really, it all depends on the circumstance. Knowing myself, if I happen to die of anything but old age, my last words will likely be something along the lines of "...oh shit."

Something a long the lines of:

Bravery is an action of passion without fear. Courage is the ability to overcome that fear and succeed in achieving that action. I am a brave man, not a man with courage, therefore I am no better than the next man. Decisions are made not bought.

"ecce Homo"

or something to that effect.

On that note is that Anat in your avatar!!! OMFG love it.

Mine ... Something along the lines of,

"Rosebud.."

-- Posted by well well well at 10:14 am on Nov. 16, 2008

something like...

"pax vobiscum."

short, and simple. And all-inclusive.

On the one hand, the death bed is a stage at which stroking one's ego becomes irrelevant, and so sanctimonious speeches or boring insights about oneself are rather unnecessary, but on the other hand it's a situation in which everyone is forced to pay solemn attention and one should make the most of that.

Or perhaps something non-verbal might be in order. Kickin' it old school with a protracted groan, or a single tear rolling ponderously down my wizened cheek.

And there's always the death bed conversion to Scientology to consider.

So many choices, so few breaths remaining. Ultimately, I think I'll go with "bye" and a death rattle. I'll have more important things on my mind than this rubbish. Namely "oh shit oh shit oh shit i'm gonna die fuck fuck fuck oh my fucking god i'm sorry i repent oh fuck i don't wanna die".

I've thought this a lot, but my solution was:
"Goodbye"

-- Posted by Event Horizon at 12:38 pm on Nov. 16, 2008

non of you will ever say those things. It's nice to romanticize about them, but in all likelihood you will be either too tired to speak or too out-of-it.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I think its fun to think about cool things to say before you die, but the truth is that you'll likely say nothing, or if you do, it will likely not be as majestic or clever as you all imagine.

I'll save thinking about it until the time comes

Goodbye is really simple. But there is always a chance of dying in sleep or dying so fast that you wouldn't get a chance to do anything. Which is maybe a better way to die.

-- Posted by Event Horizon at 1:26 pm on Nov. 16, 2008

sure, obviously 'goodbye' is completely understandable --though, again, most deaths don't happen like: ...hmmm I'm about to die, "goodbye loved ones"... ehhhhh [dead].

but i mean things that are purportedly meaningful and clever are likely never to be uttered.

Well, I agree on that. There is a really low chance that you will be able to exactly predict when your death is going to strike, therefore, your chance of saying what you have planned to be your last words is really slim.

My last words would most likely be something along the lines of:
"
"So long, motherfuckers!"

I feel this way.  I also don't feel strongly about having to say something to people before they died, like "I wish I had a chance to tell ___ I love them" It sort of seems sensationalised to me. Though I can understand the feeling more or less.

I would probably quote the first stanza of William Blake's Auguries of Innocence:

'To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour.'

That was kind of my point. Unless you're being publically executed and know exactly when you're going to die, there's really no point to planning that sort of thing ahead of time, and they don't bear any real weight, anyway.

I would simply say, I love you. I will see you soon.

I would want to leave the world with 'love' on the end of my tongue. I believe love is the strongest emotion. And I do not believe that death means 'the end' it could be the beginning, or the middle, but I am positive that I will see my loved ones again. And I would remind them that.
