Maybe this will work? Then she wouldn't have been attacked by the bigots?

Did I see them stomping on the lady's cross?
-- Posted by whoisabs at 8:05 am on Nov. 12, 2008
They pushed her, which caused her to drop the cross. Once the cross was out of her hands, they did begin to stomp on it.

Why ask for respect when you can demand it with the threat of violence? Fear is always a wonderful way of getting people to do what you want.

Obviously, religion is all hate and bigotry and thus we need to rid the world of it in a crusade of secularism / atheism.

What a great example, I can see what Keith Olbermann meant about Christians and their hate. I can't believe how hateful that old lady was being to those nice, tolerant, love-spreading gays rights activists. If only people like her acted more like them, the world would be a better place.

Sure of course ALL gays are crazy violent and racist anti-religion bigots who attack lil' old ladies in the street... And of course no one ever attacks gays and lesbians for their beliefs. http://washblade.com/thelatest/thelatest.cfm?blog_id=22284 http://www.pageoneq.com/news/2008/mettler102708.html http://cbs13.com/video/?id=41692@kovr.dayport.com http://www.proudparenting.com/node/2201 I am sickened by the hate and violence on BOTH sides frankly and I condemn most of all those who committed violence. This protest is not just about asking for "tolerance". It is asking for equal treatment under the law. Of course this means that people MUST act and behave responsibly. Believe me in this story no side really has the moral superiority. Please note that all of my gay friends and classmates are non-violent and protested peacefully. I was in a few of these protests. Most of them consisted of singing and candle lighting and speeches. And Bud, I guess it looks like you will have your wish after all. And no this time it's not funny,

I think she was a aware of the rage she would incite with that cross. She waved around salmon in what looked like a group of bears.

Can't say I have any sympathy for a heterosexist pig. When history is written, she'll be filed away right next to the segregationists. The cops can do their job. I'll just amuse myself that people crying over a protester who was deliberately instigating.

So if she demonstrates her opinion that is deliberate instigation, but the group of protesters is clear of that same charge? At least she was being peaceful about her expression.

Seriously. She was begging for something to happen. I wouldn't show up at a Black Panther rally wearing a pointy white hood and not expect things to end badly.

Nobody is acting like what happened was a surprise, but the fact that you could have predicted that gays rights activists would freak to the point of becoming violent to somebody who dares to have a different opinion than theirs does not in any way justify their actions.

Who's talking about peace, tolerance, and unity? Fuck that. It's becoming more and more obvious that people won't change, and if I, and people like me, are ever going to be given full equality in this country, we're going to have to take it. And if a few brainwashed old morons have their paper mache crosses smashed in the process, so be it.

I think you'd have a point if they approached her. But from the video it seems it was she who provoked them. While I'm not a fan of what they did, it is a bit of a stretch to feel bad for that woman.

Oh boo hoo, lets feel bad for some old lady who obviously went there to start shit/express hate. I sure as hell wouldn't go to a black crowd wearing a KKK outfit Darn those black people for pushing him :(

Like I said, maybe she shouldn't have gone there, but that still doesn't justify those people. That's no different than saying that if a woman is walking down the street alone at night and gets raped, it's her fault and the rapist was justified because she was asking for it by putting herself in that position. No it wasn't a good idea for her to be there, but that doesn't make what the other person did any less wrong.
