How do you know what prison to send a criminal to? How do you know if they go to the men's prison or the women's prison? Technically, there are three distinct sexes, male, female, and hermaphrodite. (When it comes to humans, anyway) Hermaphrodites are not common, and normally at birth, one sex will be chosen for that baby to become, and it will undergo surgery to assign that sex. That's not getting into the philosophical debate on which sex post-op transexuals are, though. As for genders, I suppose there's mainly masculine and feminine. Not sure exactly how transgendered people play into that, that's more of a philosophical debate. Transgendered people identify with gender roles not common of their sex, to put it simply. The premise that gender is not distinct is quite interesting if you consider gay marriage. What occurs if two people who are genetically 50/50 male/female wish to marry? Would one be required to consider them self a male while the other a female in order for them to marry? Amusing that you have the arrogance to think answers to such questions are so simple when opinions within the scientific community are and have been divided for centuries. If sexuality is purely genetic then there's probably at most 6 sexes: 46,XX; 46,XY; 45,X; 47,XXY; 47,XYY and 47,XXX.
