It seems you are good at languages, so you might pick it up easier than you think, or you could try and get some lessons in before you leave. I dont care what people say about the french, they have the most beautiful language in the world, and anytime I  have spent time in France everyone has always been so gracious and lovely to me,not snotty in the slighest. Most countries are obviously just jealous of france.
