Is age just a number or does it really matter? Some people say things like 'Lots of people have a 5/6 year gap but they get together after both fo them have turned 18, they did't meet when one was 16 and the other was 10.' Is 17 - 21 too much? Is 18 - 23 too much? is 18 - 24 too much? is 30- 38 too much? is 16 - 21 too much?

Age doesn't mean a whole lot. Maturity means everything. If one person is in high school and the other is in college, even THAT can be a huge gap because one person has experienced far more, while the other still has some growing up to do.

A 30 year old dating a 40 year old is okay. A 10 year old dating a 20 year old is not okay. It's about maturity levels, not numbers per se.

When I was 16 I dated a 20 year old. I'm 18 and I was with a 23 year old.. not dating FYI. I don't think any of that is really bad. But I know someone who's my age (Remember 18 YEARS OLD!) engaged to a 26 year old. And she just turned 18. Hes 26. And living at home. Momma's boy? She'll have fun with that.

I don't think most 16 year olds are mature enough for relationships anyway, even though they think they are. Actually, some 20+ olds aren't ready, either. It depends on maturity mainly. But I'd rather date someone a lot older than me that treats me like he should, then date someone closer to my age who treats me like crap.

Age differences can make for ridicule and amusement of others and can work out badly in the end, but the best of relationships could have a 20 year age gap! If you can be friends with people that much older, dating that age gap shouldn't matter either.

16 to 21 is too much but the others are fine.

It's more about maturity, most 17yr olds are not going to be as mature as lets say a 25yr old. It can work depending on the people, but generally not.
