A friend of mine is a mid teen and her parents don't want her to go to church.  She is allowed to when she begs.  Why do you think parents wouldn't want their teen going to church?  It's crazy to me because it's being taught to live a good life for the Lord, and not going out and getting drunk, pregnant or killed doing things they shouldn't do.  What do you think?

If she lives under their roof, she lives by their rules.

Because they want her to grow up in to a good little atheist

Her parents are smart.
She should respect their wishes.

Maybe her parents don't want her to get caught up in the religious bullshit that goes on in Churches today?

I mean, I love the Lord and I consider myself a Christian, but...C'mon, Church isn't the way it used to be.

Maybe he parents are one of those freaky extremist types

Or crazy, there's that too.

i personally do not like church/christianity/anything to do with "god". but if she believes in that then she should be allowed to go. freedom of choice.

I've never heard of parents not wanting their kid to go to Church before...considering they go.

Weird.

It's her right to go, she should go anyways.

it IS her right. there is a freedom of religion law right? Well it's time for her to bring her parents attention to it.

they dont want her head filled with bull shit

-- Posted by scalywag66 at 11:01 am on Nov. 16, 2008

How about she lives a good life for herself, and not the , lol, 'Lord' ?

In any event, I wish I knew why they restrict church going.   All I can speculate is that perhaps they think religion warps peoples mind and don't want their daughter to end up another mindnumb religious zealot who can't think past the bible.

Either way, they shouldn't have to wait for moaning & groaning before letting her go.

Maybe they want their kid to find her own beliefs.

-- Posted by nik1 at 4:43 am on Nov. 19, 2008

I think religion should be a choice and the choice should be made when a child is old enough to make their own decisions.  Exposure to religion at an early age is part of the brainwashing strategy.   If she is a mid teen she is old enough to make the decision in what she believes or doesn't.

Now, that's a bit silly.

It should be her own choice.

Technically, she is a minor, she is living under her parents roof, and therefore, their rules. This isn't something that is detrimental to her health or well-being, so I don't think it's that big of a deal. She can always self-educate, and pray on her own. But honestly...I don't really blame her parents. Yes, I belive in God, and believe Jesus is our savior....but truthfully, I'm not seeing God in church as of recent. All I see is hate, ignorance, fear, and greed. It's scary. Maybe I'm just going through a cynical phase, but to be honest, I really try and steer clear of church functions, because it only seems to bring out hate in people.
