I do think this is beautiful though, and you have to think of HER kind of ring not what we think. You could also ask her close friends/ family  for advice or take them with you. Of course if you take her a store and let her pick it out, the element of total surprise is gone but a)You KNOW she'll love it,  b) You can do the sizing right then and c) She can try on diff. diamond cuts to be sure they suit her hand. Then you can still surprise her with WHEN your going to propose. Now no matter what ring you give her she will love it for the fact that you gave it to her and what it means, but you should remember that it is going to be on her hand and she'll want to wear it all the time so she should feel proud of it.
