Despite the sudden burst of rain, Kodi continued to press on the accelerator. No one else was on the road, not this road anyway. She rolled down the window and let the water spray onto her face and into her car. But she didn't mind; she needed to feel something just to know that she was alive. And as the rain poured down harder and stronger, she pressed the gas pedal to the floor. She let her eyes close, testing her knowledge of the road. And back at home in her mind, she could hear them talking about how sad it was and how expensive she would be.

Meh i tend to ignore the rules when i'm writing =p I was told that a good writer ignores the rules and is able to make their own. But you're right about the semicolon. thanks =]

yeah but a published writer follows the rules. 
I'm not published..yet. =] I have a book in the works though. My editor likes my style.
