I need to call my ex, to talk to her about something. We don't exactly, get along either. Anyway, if she doesn't pick up, and I gotta leave a message, should I just say "hey its _______, give me a call back when you get the message" or should I leave a message explaining what I need to talk to her about? Which one would she be more likely to call back with?

No. Just say that.

Just tell her there is something you need to tell her. If you two don't get along too well then she may not call you back 'cause she may think you just want to chat or something stupid. But if you say you need to talk to her about something, it will be bothersome and you two are no longer in a relationship. So don't make it sound like "we gotta have a talk"!

If she doesn't pick up I would suggest that you leave a message quickly stating why you would like to talk to her.

It's important for you to explain in brief what you want to talk to her about, otherwise she very likely won't call you back.
