I am killing my dog. I am 100% serious. If I dont have him put down tomorrow, or put a series of shot gun blasts through his tiny head, it will be a miracle.

I had two shots I had done on 8"x12" sheets, with a pinhole style camera. These were probably my favorite photos I have ever made, and I spent nearly 6hrs and $30 worth of paper on EACH photo.

Im still in the process of moving into my room, and my portfolio had been knocked off of its box onto the floor, and things had kinda spilled out. I just hadnt taken the time to group it all back and get all that stuff into my closet.

Well, the dog took a huge shit all across my stuff. My two prized photos got the majority of it.

Now, had my dad taken the time to clean up the dogs mess after he saw it, the pigment wouldnt have been lifted out of the picture. However, since he just closed my door so it wouldnt stink up the house, the pictures are damaged beyond repair.

I cleaned up the shit as fast as possible, and ripped my photos off their mount, and throw them into a tank of warm water to clean them, but the pigment is already gone. The photos are saved, but theres a huge stripe down both of them.

Words do not even begin to be able to describe how pissed I am right now. Oh, then the nerve of my mom to compare this to the time the dog chewed a hole in the couch. Yes, this is exactly like the time you had to buy a $50 slip cover to throw over the $100 used couch you just bought. Yup, exactly like that. My priceless, irreplaceable prints give me the exact same feelings you had when your cheap couch got ruined. Hell, not even ruined. We still have the fucking couch, and it looks better with the covers than it ever did without them. The dog did her a favor by making her buy those slip covers.

Ugh, I swear. My family just has no appreciation for anything meaningful.

So you're gonna kill a harmless animal because of some photos?
>_>
You're pathetic.

-- Posted by glovd001 at 10:29 pm on Nov. 19, 2008

Thats cruel, your dog should be worth more than your photos.

-- Posted by Jman19 at 10:29 pm on Nov. 19, 2008

That's shitty.

Pun intended.

-- Posted by lingerie gurl at 10:29 pm on Nov. 19, 2008

They don't understand the emotional ties.

-- Posted by HuffleHaire at 10:29 pm on Nov. 19, 2008

That is absolutely heartbreaking. I'm so, so sorry. I can't even imagine how sucky that must feel. Ugh.

-- Posted by Catacomb at 10:30 pm on Nov. 19, 2008

i hate dogs

-- Posted by blufindr at 10:30 pm on Nov. 19, 2008

Wow damn

Do you still have the film to replace them?

-- Posted by mtllcrckmn at 10:31 pm on Nov. 19, 2008

LMAO I couldn't help laughing everytime I read a little bit more of that.

Your dog shit on your photos.

ROFL

Sorry for being insensitive, but you gotta admit, in five years time...

The dog can be replaced. I saved his sorry ass, I damn sure can kill him if I please.

And these arent "some photos". Did you miss the part about me spending hours on each of them, not to mention some money? Or how about the fact that these photos can NEVER be reproduced. These are the originals, and the only copy. In fact, even if I had wanted copies of them, its such a pain in the ass to make a decent print of a photo that was taken on photo paper, it probably would have never gotten done anyways.

Aww Muffin. Those poor photos. //rolls eyes.

Who gives a shit? It's just money that you can make again.
Have a fucking heart you asshole. You don't kill a dog because of SOME photos.
Grow up.

I'm sorry about your photos, but that's pathetic to shoot your dog for that.

Anyway, even though the photos are "ruined", sounds like there's enough of it left to show people what you've done (for the portfolio). Even if it's no longer good enough to display.

On everything else I have printed, yes.

However, I had gone to great lengths and considerable effort to make a fairly large pinhole camera (it printed on 8x12 sheets) and thats what I had taken these with.

Therefore, these were the originals, only copies, and aside from photocopying them, there would have been no way to really copy them, and that of course wouldnt really make a deserving copy.

Ugh....I kinda hate myself because I never cleaned up my stuff, but I mostly hate the damn dog and my dad for what happened. The pictures would have been safe, with minimal damage if my dad had gone in there and cleaned it up after it happened.

I'm sorry, that must really suck.

That being said, however, you could have had the foresight to shut the door to your room...

I dont care about the money. I care about the time, the effort, and the art that has been lost. Like I said, these shots are impossible to recreate. The conditions will never be the same, the place I took them has since had a bridge built in the background, and these shots where priceless. They meant so much to me.

I wouldnt actually kill the dog. Well, I might, but since I didnt do it immediately when I saw it, I probably wont.

And yeah, there is enough left to show for my portfolio. Its just frustrating since these were ones I would have liked to have shown off more.

Ill try to break out the digital camera tomorrow and show them off on LW, even with the damage that has been done. I had meant to for a while now.

wow you don't have negatives?

wow you don't have negatives?

Depending on how you look at it, those where the negatives. Those where the original pieces of photo paper put into the camera obscura (IE pinhole camera) that recorded the image.

Making a proper print from photo paper is near impossible, so you normally settle for the mirrored image that comes directly from the photo paper, and just use that as your print.

-- Posted by Charolastra at 10:51 pm on Nov. 19, 2008

oh right, i'm retarded. ah, sorry for your loss dude. sentimental goods getting fucked up is the fucking worst

-- Posted by tell me again at 11:00 pm on Nov. 19, 2008

by the way (a little off topic) - i can't imagine what motivates people to do pin-hole shots. i would die from the tediousness. Was this something you did completely by your own motivation?

-- Posted by aliens at 7:58 am on Nov. 20, 2008

Woah that sucks...

Kinda

I did it as part of my final project in Photography 3. We were allowed to really do anything we wanted, but we had to produce a minumum of two shots, and it had to "be worthy of your final grade". Some people did huge projects, spanning 8-10 rolls, with as many as 15-20 prints, others went with more obscure things like the camera obscura.

It is really meticulous, and planning your shots and developing them, only to have them not work is extremely frustrating. Like I said, to get those two shots, I spent many, many hours planning, organizing, taking the shots, redoing the shots, etc.

The final product is worth it though. Well, when they arent later ruined.

sorry man. That sucks a whole tonne. What on earth prompts dogs to shit at the most inappropriate time/location? They do. Invariably.

Your dog isn't toilet trained?

-- Posted by ejsrocket at 12:00 am on Nov. 23, 2008

Pets piss me off entirely. I try to like cats and stuff like that but there's only so much love I can give to something that's too stupid to know how to shit where it needs to shit.
