Saying that depression is a 'lifelong' illness that can only be treated is extremely counter productive. All these quack faggots told me I had some kind of genetic biological problem with depression and even 'bi polar', but I've long since gotten over depression. Don't let the fucking ignorant quacks dissuade you from truly trying to get better instead of mulling about in numb misery.

You seem to have had a rather unfortunate experience with psychology.

Depression can be caused by a chemical imbalance that is indeed a biological problem that won't go away.

Just because it's biological doesn't mean it can't go away.

Most often, it's not.

Yeah they just want to over charge you for addictive prescriptions

Because doctors totally make money when you fill a script in a pharmacy... WTF Anyway, I've never had a doctor say that to me. Depression isn't a lifelong illness it's transient for most people. How will being told you'll be depressed forever inspire hope? Bipolar is a lifelong illness maybe the doctor was talking about that.

What, did I not emphasize the 'can' part enough for you or something? Quote: from greatescape11 at 12:32 am on Nov. 20, 2008

Yeah, cause that's exactly what I said.

Yeah and that's why they sometimes give you ones that aren't needed. Like a case that's going on with my CNA friend who aids a lady with bipolar disorder who is given 12 prescriptions... she only needs one. And most are pain relievers, the woman isn't even in physical pain....

Alright, saying that any 'mental illness' is a lifelong illness is fucking stupid.

Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder are generally life-long with onset in early adulthood.

You are in control of your own mind (what else could possibly control it) You can only be depressed if you believe that you are. Just like you can only be happy if you believe that you are... If you go though your whole life telling yourself that you are depressed, then you will be depressed. On the other hand... If you tell yourself that you are happy, and how great you feel..... then you'll feel great... It's just as easy to be positive as it is to be negative. You just have to do it.

They tend to be life-long because the problem is never solved, not because that's the 'mechanism' of it.
