Will I face this same issue if I do highlights? But, dying your hair a certain color.. that almost always comes out after a while. -- Posted by Artistic Drain at 9:16 pm on Nov. 20, 2008 ...my low lights came out after 2 washes. Red hair has a harder time holding dye. I have never ever gotten roots because it washes out so fast. -- Posted by breakapart at 11:30 am on Nov. 22, 2008 highlights would be done with bleach, rather than dye, though a dye or toner will probably be put on AFTER the bleach.  Since the bleach just strips your hair of the color, there is nothing to wash out.
