The matter/energy must ACTUALLY EXIST within the gravitational range of the black hole before it can be sucked in and 'stored'. Because of this, the amount of matter/energy stored in a black hole is FINITE, because they can only acquire a FINITE amount of energy, because there is only a FINITE amount of matter/energy within their range.
