It's because the government likes to kiss ass for people that lived over 100 years ago, and the slaves. It doesn't bother me with it. But it gives people more cockyness

No, its because minority US histories are normally ignored.

Until they go to the tanning place. Then they're caramel people. Uh, no. White history is widely taught. Black, Hispanic etc history is not.

A lot of people never liked me, you'll have to be more specific. And I'm not going to dish out my "shitty feelings" on a stupid topic like this, only to be bashed further, because of course I'll be wrong and racist...or whatever.

Well, in essence, US history isn't necessarily white history. It is US history. It is just that non-white contributions are usually not elaborated upon. As for Australian history..well..the Aboriginals are either dead or dying from drugs. Soo, you guys study British history?

that could get interesting...polyester too O.O anyway, back to the race question, I think it would do justice to get rid of the individual race history months and just have an entire month dedicated to diversity

Pretty much, yes. Renaissance, etc. Information like that is widely available. Not so much minorities' histories.

Why don't we just not further segregate ourselves by having such ridiculous, shallowly disguised celebrations of race? Who cares? If you care about your history, good for you. Go read up on it. Most of the rest of us really couldn't care less.

Oh, I don't know about that. I suppose it may be in quite a few places, but the US history classes I had during middle and high school all touched on slavery, Jim Crow laws, the feminist movement, discrimination against Asians, and the Civil Rights Movement about as equally as any other topic in US history, and I know a lot of textbooks on the US history which puts a particular emphasis on these subjects are taught at in many schools around the US (and not just during these silly months). There is no reason why the history of blacks, or any other minorities, in the US shouldn't be taught in a regular history class. It's clearly an integral part of the social relatons in the US and ought to at least be touched upon during any regular US history course. These history months for races and the like are stupid - the people who promote them would better spend their efforts promoting an increased emphasis on these topics in regular history classes. Minorities in the US are as American as any white person is, and the experiences of their group is uniquely American. Obviously the history of the US will always be more focused on Europe than anywhere else for the US has its origins in Europe - there's no denying that. As the US is becoming increasingly diverse ethnically and culturally, and as more non-European powers are rising to power, the history of non-European countries will become more relevant to the US as the US begins to take on its own form, increasingly separating itself from Europe as time goes on.
