They're druggies, and thieves...nothing more.

Ah, I see.

Well, I don't have a problem with them. As long as they don't cause me any harm, then I don't care.

No one talks about the Roma because there are so few of them, and they lack a centralized culture

I don't notice any concerned about the Dongba people.  Why this group?

Im not sure I thought it was worth a post.
I will be researching a bit of the Dongba though.

So, all of the "I bet you're a Gypsy" posts were worth it, but not my "We ignore them to their diaspora"?

Dongba are cool because their semantophonetic script is super complex.

Thanks for bringing the Dongba to my attention.

That wasn't necessarily to get you to look at them.  Just commenting that there are plenty of groups not on here.  You know who's felt more oppression than Roma?  The Ös.  They got completely screwed by the Soviet Union.

Plenty of racial/cultural minorities out there is the point.  No reason to harp about one being missing.

The Soviet Union had very noble causes at its foundation. Then it began to be its own enemy.

Che Guevara commented on the Soviet Union before, on the fact that it was as well exploiting developing nations.

I shouldnt harp on a single group though as you are correct.

Killing off minority languages isn't a noble cause, it's prejudice and meddling.  Governments shouldn't meddle.

Was this a period of time after Stalins rise to power.

From what I hear, (from my european friends) they think its Ok to steal from people and treat the people around them very badly.
They think its Ok to publicly harass and threaten people on the street.
That just may be why people don't like them.
(I'm not biased about this, seeing as I have gypsy ancestry).

-- Posted by jakelong at 12:55 am on Dec. 3, 2008

yeah I agree ppl tend to forget them

They suffered a lot during the holocaust and even before and after.

sounds a bit like genralizing though.

gypsies are outside society so they get a lot of bad rap. I don't know what they its ok or not ok to do. We can't read their mind really you know.

What I find interesting is that they might turn out to be the closes to the real Aryans

The Indo-Aryans who make up around 74% of India's population are a wide collection of peoples united by their common status as the ethno-linguistic descendents of the Indic branch of the ancient Indo-Iranians (also known as Aryans). Today, there are close to a billion native speakers of Indo-Aryan languages, mostly indigenous to the region of South Asia, though in ancient times, they could have been found on the eastern part of the Iranian plateau (Afghanistan) pakistan and in areas as far west as modern Syria and Iraq (the Mittani) and as far east as modern Cambodia and Vietnam (Hindu Khmer and Champa kingdoms). There are also millions of Indo-Aryans now living abroad (see Non-resident Indian and Person of Indian Origin and Roma people).

The compound term Indo-Aryan specifies the "Indic" branch of Indo-Iranian which was formerly known as "Aryan" in linguistic terminology, "Aryan" deriving in turn from the Sanskrit word arya (आर्य).
