they stayed home for 3yrs they would go out of course to the store and siple stuff like that but didn't have friends and spent time with family ?

staying locked up alone some were can make you depressed. it's happened to be before.

Yes, lack of socializing is always a big reason for depression. Really, you can become depressed for missing your school prom or losing your favorite pair of shoes. But its the way that you get out of the situation that matters.

depression is considered 2 weeks or more with classic symtoms such as low mood, being irritable, loss or gain of appetire and general apathy. Being secluded can help trigger it, but it wouldnt be a lone trigger

if you hide from depression it'll never find you. Depression sucks at hide and seek, just like hitler. ask anne frank for more tips on how to hide.
