Can you call a hospital and ask if beds are open in a psych ward without them sending cops to your house if you say nevermind because they're full?

See the problem is that the one i want into is usally full, and if it is they send you to this other hospitals one, which really sucks because the other one is alot crappier then the one I want into.

No you can't they can hold you for up to 5 days with or without your permission.

They only need to call the police if you are at risk of harming yourself or others. You can try to make this clear by saying that you have no real intentions of either of those. You can also pretend to ask on behalf of a friend. And anyway, asking proactively is a good sign that you're thinking clearly and positively. Can't guarantee for shits who want to save everybody's lives and take extra precautions though.
