im asking support leaders to help me delete this shit

especially when someone screws up with a video posting, its not like some idiot cant just c/p the link or double click

-- Posted by Niick at 9:02 pm on Dec. 3, 2008

Totally willing to help you hide them.

Im completely new at this so Ive resisted the urge to hide posts that shouldnt be there, because I see SOOOO many Id probably be demoted xD

-- Posted by greatescape at 9:02 pm on Dec. 3, 2008

It's annoying but is it against the rules?

-- Posted by Malachite Morning at 9:03 pm on Dec. 3, 2008

Not contributing. Gotcha.

I wouldn't see the harm in it if we happened across a post.

-- Posted by barnabas at 9:03 pm on Dec. 3, 2008

Hiding posts is not the primary job of a SL. Go answer an ehelp.

I would say if someone does it in a support forum in response to someone's topic asking for help it's okay to delete.

However...a lot of this site is just random stuff and I don't really see how "fail" is that much worse or lacking value than a lot of other stuff that isn't deleted

-- Posted by Trendz at 9:06 pm on Dec. 3, 2008

Lol I don't think that's a good idea

well i mean if the topic is about a video and people are too stupid to click on the link and instead sit back saying 'hur hur hur fail' its pretty non contributory

but its mostly just really fucking annoying

-- Posted by The Professional at 9:06 pm on Dec. 3, 2008

Absolutely not.

"Fail" posts can contribute plenty.  As with all things, there are certain situations that would call for a deletion for such a thing (support topics), but in most cases coming to mind right now, they are contributive.

Show me some examples.

-- Posted by matto at 9:07 pm on Dec. 3, 2008

It's not spam.  I only post it when it's true, or if I'm in an asshole mood.  It's legitimate commentary when used correctly.

Though, not in response to my posts!  Those fail posts should be deleted!

Meh.  I don't think it's necessarily a violation of the terms of use though, in all seriousness.  Though, in response to serious help threads, it is inappropriate and should be deleted as such.

If I deleted posts based on how annoying they are....a good amount of this website would go MIA.

no i mean just when someone posts a video where it doesnt work if you hit play but you can still click the link or whatever, and all the idiots are like "fail fail fail fail"

i personally wouldnt mind

It is not your place to determine the guidelines of this site.  This should be in the context of a question.  Not in the context of "help me do this action"

How does that not contribute?  They failed at posting the link, it's DTRM, it applies plenty.

If I deleted everything I found personally annoying, I'm fairly sure all YouTube topics would be gone.

-- Posted by iconoclast at 9:09 pm on Dec. 3, 2008

btw i dont mean when people are being jerks together although the fail thing is stupid i just mean in topics when people can click the link but are too stupid/lazy to do so

Yeah.
Welllll you can take that up with someone else but my official stance is that "fail" should only be deleted if it's TOTALLY irrelevant to everything or if it's in a support forum.

Not that my offcial stance holds much weight.  But still.

it doesnt really contribute because the topic is about something and youre just sitting there saying 'fail'

It does contribute though.  Hell, it could even contribute IF the link worked.

It's basically just a way to explain your feelings.  If someone posted a YouTube link that they claimed was funny, and someone said "Fail.", it would still be considered contributive.

-- Posted by barnabas at 9:12 pm on Dec. 3, 2008

If it is not in a support topic, In my opinion we should not even be having this conversation.

Support leaders should only be hiding posts that are grossly violating a guideline. not anything they find questionable.

-- Posted by x FENRIS x at 9:12 pm on Dec. 3, 2008

I agree about responses that say "fail" in response to a serious topic. However in response to a random topic, although I do consider it arrogant, it's not really worthy of deletion as the whole topic is of that caliber. Let the mods deal with the latter. Use the report function if it peeves you like it does me.

I guess the judgment call that we have to make is whether it is random or serious.

I'd suggest not using the hide function on your own topics, and again, to instead use the report function, admitting to a possible bias.

Keep in mind that we were recently contacted to be more lenient with the hide function. Be careful, I would not like to lose that privilege/responsibility!

why the hell is it contributive if the topic is supposed to be about something

side conversations loosely pertaining to the topic are okay because thats part of dtrm's atmosphere but just saying 'fail' is utterly useless and repetitive

well not entirely, dtrm is about humor and random shit but youre still supposed to be LOOSELY on topic or whatever not just posting the same annoying bullshit over and over and over

-- Posted by greatescape at 9:17 pm on Dec. 3, 2008

I think you need to take another look at DTRM and then decide if you stand by that statement.

Half of it is overused 4chan memes.

-- Posted by MariJani at 9:18 pm on Dec. 3, 2008

If someone posts a topic, and they seem to mess up the tags of a youtube video, having 2 pages of posts that say 'fail' basically ruin the topic.  More than likely their op will be fixed, and the topic will be ruined because it is composed of all non-contributive posts.  In those type of cases I think they should be trashed.
