I've had an eating disorder for quite some time now, and have been in intensive treatment for in since April. Fighting for recovery is the hardest thing I have ever done, and I can't say that I've ever gotten too far into recovery before I slip up and end up back in the hospital again. If there is anyone out there who is in treatment for their eating disorder, when does it get easier? When does recovery actually seem like a possibility?

Thinking positive helps, but if it were as easy as just thinking positive thoughts, which that in itself is hard to do, then there wouldn't be treatment centers dedicated to eating disorders...

I've never had an eating disorder, but I have had my own share of issues. You just have to think to yourself "I know this will get better, I just have to try my absolute hardest, and it will." because you really can get over it, and I believe you will. Everyone has their own problems, and how you deal with them is what makes you who you are. When you come out of this you will be a stronger, healthier person. You can say to yourself that you beat your disease, and know with all of your heart that you won't let it happen again. Whenever you think that you can't and will not eat, or you will purge, whichever, find something to distract yourself. Read a book, watch a movie, call a friend, go for a walk/run, listen to some mellow music, anything. Just do whatever it takes not to give in to your disease. People need to eat to survive, and you are endangering your body, which I'm sure you know. Whatever you think of your appearance, I know you are beautiful. Everyone is beautiful. It's a cliche for a reason, because it's true. You are beautiful. Don't forget that, and you will be just fine. Message me if you want to.

I'm currently in recovery for the second time(struggling for the past 5 years), and I'm about at the same spot as you. I'm always wondering if I will ever be able to get better, and sometimes it seems impossible. I just barely got put into the hospital and the fear of my parents putting me in there is the only thing keeping me from relapsing, but it doesn't stop the pain and misery that comes with these awful eating disorders. So I hope that someone posts some great advice, and though I can't help myself I'm here for you.

I go in stages. Over time, it gets easier to stay clean longer, and to get clean faster again after slipping up, but I don't know if the urges ever permanently end. I think there's a good chance it'll always be there as temptation, it's just a question of getting your life to a good enough place to minimize the feeling of wanting to change your eating habits.
