There are plenty of OSX viruses. You dont even have to download things illegally to get them. Most of them are embedded, and hijack Safari with no effort at all.

But to the OP: Yes, especially if they are telling you to get a new codec. Use VLC, it has pretty much every codec built in.

There are plenty.

Safari has been one of the most exploited programs this year, with a new exploit being released within hours of Apple updating it most of the time.

Just because you are on a Mac doenst mean you are invulnerable. Steve Jobs blessing doesnt give you super powers, just an inflated ego.
