i've been wanting to go for a while and i've been talking to mum about it, and she says if i'm good she will finance it yay it depend where i go but i'm not sure if i'll go alone or not, and i'm not sure how long i'll stay so now i want to choose which state/s i'll go to i want a place that is close to the beach (at least 30 minute drive) and has a really really good city and night life somewhere that is not really country, and is pretty busy what states fit those requirements? i was thinking like California or New York or something..

If you're looking for a beach, don't go to New York. Go to California or Florida (Miami would be the best in Florida).

Yeah that's pretty much it. New York, California, Florida.

I can't, in all good conscious, suggest coming anywhere near where I am at any time except during the June-August time frame. Even then, if you are looking for culture and sights... they aren't in Michigan. Cedar point in Sandusky, Ohio... Chicago.... Washington, DC, Myrtle beach, Cali

Here are a few different possible options I would recommend, if you want to get a taste of what America is really like. Suggestion 1: (The Northeast/New England) -Start in Philadelphia. Philly is like, the holy grail of American history, but you don't have to like history to have fun there. -Then head up to New York City. Hit all the major landmarks, but also make sure you visit some places that aren't so famous. I would elaborate on different specific things to do, but I'm not very familiar with NYC. -And finally, catch a bus to Boston. Boston is a neat city in so many different ways. You have to go there to understand. Suggestion 2: -Go to Chicago. Chicago is my favorite city in the U.S. It's in the midwest, but it's right on Lake Michigan, so it feels like a coastal city (with beaches!). Places to go include shows (check out some improv theater), shopping (check out the Magnificent Mile), Navy Pier, the Field Museum, The Art Institute of Chicago, Grant Park, the museum of Science and Industry, Lincoln Park, and the Sears Tower (check out the view). You'll feel like you're in the middle of everything. Suggestion 3: (West Coast) -Start out in San Francisco. Take a walk across the Golden Gate Bridge or just relax by the bay. Go to Alcatraz Island and have clam chowder in a sourdough bowl, right on the pier. Go to Chinatown and ride on a cable car. It has beautiful weather all year round, but watch out for earthquakes! -If you want to get away from the city and see some of America's famous scenery, then spend a day or two in either Yosemite National Park or Lake Tahoe. Yosemite is quite a beautiful place, with mountains and cool rock formations. Lake Tahoe is beautiful as well, but more touristy, with lots of casinos and stuff. -Finally, go to Los Angeles. I feel a bit uneasy about recommending this one, because I've never actually been there myself, but my cousins live there and they say that it pretty much epitomizes modern America. There's Hollywood, Universal Studios, DisneyLand, and of course lots of pop-culture-related locations. Of course, if you have enough time and money, you can go to all of these places.

The entire east coast of America is awesome. (: And you'll get ocean that way! I'd recommend New England. It's so homey and friendly.
